BLURB:
When you’re enemies, does love have a fighting chance?
For Amiria of Berwyck, defeat does not come easily as she watches her home and clan being ripped asunder. When the very enemy who has laid siege to her home demands her fealty, she will do whatever it takes to protect her people including a hastily concocted ruse that quickly begins to unravel. All too soon, she starts to question whether she can forgive herself for betraying those she has sworn to protect.
Dristan of Blackmore, champion knight of King Henry II, has a reputation to uphold as the Devil’s Dragon. After his invading army conquers Berwyck castle, he sets out to manage the newly claimed estate by training its knights in the art of proper defense. At first, everything appears as it should be, or is it? Betrayed by those he believed he could trust, he must first set aside his anger before he can make room in his heart for love.
Together they are tied by an unspoken bond. As they begin to rebuild the land and unite their people, forces beyond their control attempt to tear apart their fragile truce and only time will tell if love will forever bring them together.
Excerpt:
“A good morn to you, mademoiselle,” Dristan said, with a slight bow. “You are far from the village so early. Mayhap I can offer my assistance and see you back to your dwelling?”
A negative shake of her head was all Dristan was awarded, and he watched as she took several steps backwards towards the haven of the trees behind her.
“Come now… I mean you no harm, mistress, as I am lord of yon keep,” he declared with a wave of his hand towards the castle. “As a knight of King Henry’s realm, I fear you must humor me as ’twould be most unchivalrous to leave one so lovely unprotected to the elements of both man and beast alike. May I escort you to the village perchance?”

It’s time for another Medieval Monday blog hop! Our theme is, “Hero and heroine first encounter”. Each author has selected an excerpt from one of their books to share with you over the next few months.
I’m excited to share the first excerpt from book, The Vikings of Normandy. At the end of the post, you will see where to go on the following Monday to find out what happens next.
Five fierce invaders. Five innocent maids. One land to conquer.
THE VIKINGS OF NORMANDY
When the Viking leader, Rollo, sets his sights on conquering Paris, he sends a band of his fiercest warriors to capture a stronghold to shelter the invaders through the winter. Collect all five episodes in one volume.
GUNNAR
Gunnar Sigurdsen finds an unguarded stronghold at the mouth of the Seine River is the perfect target. Oliana du Fossé waits helplessly for her brute of a husband to claim her.
WULF
Wulf contemplates his share of the spoils after capturing a stronghold in Francia, fat with treasure and slaves. Farin longs to escape her fate as bed slave to the most savage barbarian of them all.
BRON
Brondulf Adilson has struck terror into his enemies for as long as he can remember, as well as the women who share his bed. Now he finds himself saddled with a beauty who may just steal his heart.
THORLEIF
Thorleif Rolvsson has been captured by the enemy. The Queen of the Franks has needs. Will a single night of passion change his fate? Or will he dine with his sons in Valhalla?
MAGNUS
Magnus hasn’t the time or motivation to take a wife. Especially not one who will most likely try to slit his throat while he sleeps.
EXCERPT TWO
Bron changed his mind. He should never have let Wulf talk him into it, but by the gods—the man could be persuasive. The last thing he needed was a woman underfoot, and now that he’d had time to think about it, he recalled the handful of women he had let get close to him over the years. Trouble one and all.

Excerpts:
Week One – Excerpt
A cold breeze encircled Catriona and chill bumps rose on her skin. Rubbing her arms, she noticed the darkening sky. Gray billowing clouds heralded dusk. She’d lost track of time. Danger lurked in the remote wilds of Scotland, and she had a long walk back to the shelter of the castle. She folded the missive, tucked it into her pouch at her waist, and then slid from the boulder.

A noise akin to thunder rumbled through the heavy door as fists pounded the boards, demanding entrance.
“The guests have noticed our absence,” he said. “’Twill be some time before they admit their disappointment and return to their drinking.” He glanced at the door, reminding himself Arbela had latched it. “What is yer wish, Arbela? How would ye prefer to spend our first night together?”
Join me next week on my blog https://www.cathymacraeauthor.com/ for the next excerpt from The Highlander’s Crusader Bride!
Born in the Holy Land only a few years after the Third Crusade, half-Armenian, half-Scot Arbela MacLean is a true daughter of the desert, beautiful and untamed. Trained to be a warrior to avoid her gentle mother’s fate, Arbela has honed her skills with Turkish bow and arrow, sword and throwing darts—and dreads the day her father choses a man for her to marry.
After more than thirty years in the Holy Land, Donal MacLean, Baron of Batroun, is recalled to Scotland, the last son available to take up leadership of clan MacLean. He brings with him knights, treasure, trade—and a daughter of marriageable age.
Caelen MacKern, known as the Bull of the Highlands, is cynical about women. His first marriage formed an alliance, and he did not grieve when his spoiled, immature bride passed away. He has agreed to marry again—against his better judgement—for the men, means and coin to recover from a devastating pestilence that all but wiped out his clan.
Though more than a little resentful at finding himself forced to remarry, Caelen’s proposal to Donal MacLean’s headstrong daughter nevertheless piques her interest. Each will receive what they want most from life—the ability to live as they please without interference from a meddling spouse. But their marriage of indifference will soon change to one of passion that neither Arbela nor Caelen could have predicted.

(Fire was chancy.) No other method for distraction presented such an opportunity, however. Fire would claim the attention of every person at Stonehill, including the villagers. Even the guards would rally to fight the flames. Leaving all prisoners unattended.
The recent rains might have dampened the wood, but perhaps most remained dry enough to burn, at least enough to seem a threat. She counted on it.
Plenty of smoke to attract attention but slow-moving flames that could be extinguished before they spread to the castle or to the whole forest.
She’d start the fire herself and not endanger anyone else. Once the blaze caught, she’d slip through the gate to free Oscar and Henry. A tiny sigh escaped as she pressed her forehead against the door frame. The whole plan reeked of hastiness. Yet time and circumstance demanded quick action. She had no choice.

I’m excited to share the eleventh excerpt which is from Ashley York‘s book, Eyes of the Seer.
At the end of the post, you will see where to go on the following Monday to find out what happens next.
Watching as Marcán’s eyes traveled the length of the new slave, assessing her, had made Astrid feel like she was being doused with cold water. The man was considering taking the slave to his bed! He wanted her. She was a pretty thing, obviously intrigued by Marcán—what woman wouldn’t be?—and as far as Astrid could tell, she’d given every indication she was more than willing.
A sick feeling had unfurled inside Astrid. Certainly Marcán had taken plenty of women to his bed, or mayhap he went to theirs as Diarmuid had. Astrid was not ignorant, but she had never actually thought of Marcán in that way—until now. She struggled to contain the emotions that threatened to overwhelm her.
In ancient Ireland, men and women take to the legends for answers. Different-colored eyes are the mark of a Seer, it is said, and those who can see the future are in league with the devil. They cannot be suffered to live.
He wishes to prove himself…
Marcán of Clonascara bears the bloodline of Brian Boru, the legendary high king, and his prowess as a warrior has earned him great respect. But he was born with different-colored eyes, and there are some who would have him suffer a Seer’s fate. His fiercest adversary is Beibhinn, mother to Diarmuid, his close friend and king, and Astrid, the woman who holds his heart. If Astrid ever showed him any interest, he would fight Beibhinn and any army to wed her.
She is desperate to escape…
Astrid is sick of her mother’s belittling, but her brother is in no hurry to see her married, so she decides to see to her own match-making. The man she approaches quickly reveals his lack of honor, but her overbearing mother pushes her to wed him anyway. When Astrid discovers Marcán’s love for her, she realizes that what she wants has been in front of her all along. True happiness awaits them, but only if they can put a stop to her mother’s plans.

Excerpt:
“Aye.” She sounded doubtful.
Best to make sure. “Then your choice is nay?”
The long pause raised his hopes to a pinnacle he knew to be false. Her flicker of jealousy toward Ysabel would not have erased her loyalty to Geoffrey so soon. So when her “aye” came, soft but sure, he had already begun to contrive their performance.
“Then come, remove your gown and lie here on your back.”
“Remove the gown?” The alarm in her voice made him envision her clutching the garment to her.
BLURB:
The worst betrayals come from within.
After a night of passion with her betrothed, Sir Geoffrey Longford, Lady Alyse de Courcy is eagerly looking forward to her wedding. Excerpt:
Lady MacLennan’s sister? By all the saints, the Galbraiths had managed to find a valuable prize. From everything Lucas had heard about Laird Fingal MacLennan, he tended to be overprotective to a fault. He must have let his guard down in the royal court. Well, their loss was his gain. There was no love lost between the Grants and the MacLennans and this wee morsel would bring the Grants as much ransom as she would the Galbraiths. Of course she didn’t need to know that, so he’d have to tread carefully.
“My mother was a Macrae.” That was perfectly true. Furthermore, the MacLennan’s and the Macraes were on reasonably good terms.

‘He was supposed to marry your aunt.’ He dredged the memory up from somewhere. ‘Your mother was a younger sister, but he said that once he saw her, he couldn’t marry anyone else. He said she had hair like a sunset.’
‘Red.’ She lifted a hand to her head self-consciously. ‘But my father liked it.’
